What are Chemical Peels?
Chemical peels are aesthetic treatments that exfoliate the surface of the skin, causing dead and damaged skin cells to peel away and reveal healthy new skin underneath. They use strong chemical solutions that penetrate the skin to a calculated depth, meaning they can range in potency from light to deep. Chemical peels are a very versatile treatment that can address a wide range of skin concerns. Dr. Roussel can use chemical peels to help rejuvenate your skin and achieve a brighter, healthier look.

Chemical Peel Candidates
The best candidates for chemical peels are patients who have cosmetic concerns like dryness, texture, pigmentation, oiliness, fine lines, and wrinkles. These concerns can make the skin look aged or dull and do not typically respond to skincare products alone. In order to be considered a good candidate for chemical peels, you should be in overall good health and have no active skin conditions that might impact the effectiveness of your treatment. Dr. Roussel will discuss your medical history and assess your skin to determine if a series of chemical peels can help you achieve your cosmetic goals.
Chemical peels can easily be combined with other non-surgical treatments like neurotoxins, dermal fillers, or laser treatments. Dr. Roussel will give you a professional recommendation on the ideal treatment plan for your needs during a consultation.
Chemical Peel Procedure Steps
Chemical peels can be administered in under an hour. Dr. Roussel will begin by reviewing the details of your treatment plan and helping you select the right peeling solution and depth for your goals. Some chemical peels are performed using a topical anesthetic and this will be administered. Then, the skin will be cleansed and the chemical solution will be gently applied. The solution will be left for an exact amount of time before being neutralized. Finally, your skin will be soothed and made ready for the rest of your day.

Chemical Peel Results and Recovery
Dr. Roussel will give you detailed instructions on caring for your skin in the days and weeks following your chemical peel. Most importantly, you should avoid picking or rubbing the skin, as well as exposing it to sunlight or hot temperatures. You will also be asked to avoid certain skincare products. You can expect some redness and sensitivity in the first few days followed by a peeling phase that can last for 1-2 weeks.
Once the skin finishes peeling, smooth and healthy skin will be revealed underneath. You will see a noticeable reduction in the appearance of your concerns as the skin heals. Chemical peel results typically last for 2-3 weeks and can be compounded by additional treatments performed monthly. Dr. Roussel will give you a detailed outline of how many sessions are needed for best results.
