What is a Body Lift?

A body lift is a broad term for plastic surgery procedures that lift and remove stretched skin and stubborn fat. A body lift may encompass multiple areas of the upper or lower body in order to create a trimmer and more defined figure. The body lift remains one of the only ways to get rid of excess, stretched skin after significant weight loss.

Body Lift Candidates

The best candidates for a body lift are patients who have excess skin and stubborn fat on their body in areas like the stomach, hips, thighs, arms, back, breasts, and more. Body lift patients may have undergone weight loss or pregnancy which left stretched, excess skin. This skin can cause significant problems with confidence, hygiene, wardrobe, and more. In order to be considered a good candidate for a body lift, you should be in overall good health and able to take time to recover after surgery. It’s important that your weight be stable and at a healthy level before undergoing surgery, as further weight loss or gain can negatively affect your results. Dr. Roussel will help you determine whether you are a good candidate for a body lift by carefully assessing your medical history and performing a thorough examination.

The body lift is often performed in combination with body contouring surgeries like the thigh lift, arm lift, breast lift, and more. Liposuction is often used to provide further definition to the treatment areas. Dr. Roussel will give a professional recommendation on how best to approach your body contouring suite.

Body Lift Procedure Steps

The body lift is performed as an outpatient procedure using general anesthesia. Dr. Roussel will begin your procedure by performing an appropriate, predetermined incision. This allows access to the underlying fat and tissues. Stubborn fat is removed from the area and any stretched tissues are resuspended. Then, excess skin is trimmed away, and the incisions are closed. Once complete, Dr. Roussel will prepare you for your recovery period.

2-3 Weeks

Body Lift Results and Recovery

A body lift can take 2-3 weeks of recovery depending on the extent of your surgical procedure. You’ll be instructed to avoid intensive activity during this time and instead focus on resting. Dr. Roussel will provide detailed aftercare instructions on how to manage swelling, monitor for complications, and follow up. Depending on your procedure, you may need to avoid sleeping in certain positions and wear compression garments to aid your recovery.

Swelling may take 2-3 weeks to subside, although it may take several more weeks for your final results to emerge. By this time, you’ll see noticeable improvement in the shape, contour, and definition of your figure. When performed by a skilled and experienced plastic surgeon, your body lift results can last for many decades.
