What is the Facelift?

The facelift is a surgical procedure that rejuvenates and lifts the tissues of the face. As we age, the skin begins to lose its youthful, elastic quality and sags downward – especially in areas like the jawline, mouth, and cheeks. A facelift restores the skin and underlying tissues to a more upright position, recapturing a more youthful facial profile. In fact, the facelift can make you appear as much as ten years younger when performed by a skilled plastic surgeon such as Dr. Roussel.

Facelift Candidates

The best candidates for the facelift are patients who feel like their face no longer reflects their youthful energy and outlook. They may feel like they look much older than they really are or receive comments that they appear worn out or tired. They may have even tried non-surgical treatments in the past but no longer achieve the results they’re hoping for. To be successful with your facelift, you should be in overall good health and able to take time to recover after surgery. Dr. Roussel will assess your goals with the facelift and perform a detailed examination to help you carefully consider your options.

The facelift is one of the most common facial rejuvenation procedures and it can easily be combined with other facial surgeries like the brow lift, neck lift, or blepharoplasty, as well as non-surgical treatment options like dermal fillers, neurotoxins, or laser resurfacing. Dr. Roussel will give you a professional recommendation on how to best achieve your desired look.

Facelift Procedure Steps

A facelift is an outpatient procedure performed using general anesthesia or sedation, depending on the type of anesthetic you select with the help of Dr. Roussel. To begin, Dr. Roussel will create small incisions around the hairline and use special surgical techniques to tighten and lift the underlying tissues of the face. Once the tissues are repositioned and a more naturally youthful look is achieved, the excess skin will be removed, and the sutures will be closed. After your procedure is complete, you can return home. Observation in the hospital is selected for some patients.

1-2 Weeks

Facelift Results and Recovery

The facelift requires 1-2 weeks of recovery. During this time, you should avoid strenuous activity and elevating your heart rate. Dr. Roussel will give you detailed aftercare instructions on how to care for your incisions, follow up, and report any concerns. It’s essential to keep your head elevated to prevent swelling and complications. Dr. Roussel will prescribe medications to help manage discomfort – most discomfort should subside within the first few days.

After 2-3 weeks, you should feel comfortable returning to public and your daily activities. It can take several months for your incisions to fade completely but you can enjoy a noticeable improvement in your face’s youthfulness and overall profile. You’ll look like a younger, more energetic version of yourself. With an anti-aging regimen created by Dr. Roussel, your facelift results can last for many years to come.
