What is Kybella?

Kybella is an injectable cosmetic treatment that can reduce the appearance of a double chin. Known as submental fat, a double chin is a common cosmetic concern that can occur in people who are at an otherwise healthy weight. Kybella works by dissolving the fatty tissue under the chin and achieving better definition of the jawline. Dr. Roussel can use Kybella to help enhance the facial profile and sculpt a more aesthetically balanced look.

Kybella Candidates

The best candidates for Kybella are patients who have stubborn fat under their chin that does not seem to go away with diet and exercise. Many patients feel that this fat makes them look heavier than they are or takes away from the balance of their facial profile. In order to be considered a good candidate for Kybella, you should be in overall good health. Dr. Roussel will discuss your medical history and perform a thorough examination of your face and chin to determine if Kybella can help you achieve your cosmetic goals.

Kybella is one option for reducing the appearance of a double chin. Dr. Roussel may instead recommend neck liposuction based on your goals and preferences. She will discuss the details of your ideal treatment plan during a consultation.

Kybella Procedure Steps

Kybella can be administered by Dr. Roussel within about one hour. Dr. Roussel will begin by reviewing the details of your treatment plan and discussing aftercare steps. Kybella is typically administered with a topical anesthetic and this will be applied and left to activate. Once ready, the product will be injected using a very fine needle in a grid pattern under the chin. Once complete, you will be able to return home.

Multiple treatment sessions recommended

Kybella Results and Recovery

Dr. Roussel will give you detailed information on how to care for your treatment area after your session. You should expect swelling and sensitivity – this can be managed using cool packs, over-the-counter medications, and keeping your head elevated. You should avoid any intensive activities for the first few days, although you may still go about daily activities. Make sure to also avoid rubbing, massaging, or touching the treatment area. Within a week, swelling should begin to subside.

Kybella requires multiple treatment sessions for best results, and Dr. Roussel will provide you with a professional estimate of how many will be needed. These treatments are typically spaced about one month apart. With a full treatment regimen administered by a knowledgeable plastic surgeon, Kybella can produce permanent results.
