What are Neurotoxins?

Neurotoxins are cosmetic injectable treatments commonly known by brands like Botox and Xeomin. Neurotoxins are a unique non-surgical treatment option for fine lines and wrinkles and have many other cosmetic uses as well. They work by temporarily weakening movements in specific muscles, relaxing furrows, and smoothing the skin. Dr. Roussel uses neurotoxins to produce natural, rejuvenating results with minimal downtime.

Neurotoxin Candidates

The best candidates for neurotoxins like Botox are patients who are seeing the beginning signs of aging like crow’s feet, forehead lines, or frown lines. Many patients feel these signs of aging make them look tired or worn out, even if they don’t feel like it. In order to be considered a good candidate for neurotoxins, you should be in overall good health. Dr. Roussel will discuss the details of your medical history and your cosmetic goals to determine if you’re a good candidate for injectable treatments.

Neurotoxins are most effective when combined with other non-surgical treatments like laser resurfacing or dermal fillers. Together, these options can achieve a naturally refreshed and youthful look, especially when performed by a skilled plastic surgeon.

Neurotoxin Procedure Steps

Neurotoxins can be administered in as little as 15 minutes. Dr. Roussel will begin by discussing your cosmetic goals and helping you develop an appropriate treatment plan. Once the treatment area is cleansed, the product is carefully placed in the muscles using a very fine needle. A topical numbing cream can be supplied if necessary. Once complete, you can return to your daily activities.

Neurotoxins Results and Recovery

Dr. Roussel will provide detailed information regarding aftercare. Most importantly, you should avoid laying down or bending over for the first four hours after treatment. Additionally, avoid intensive activities and hot environments for the remainder of the day. Finally, avoid rubbing or massaging the area for the first few days. You may have some minor redness and sensitivity at the injection sites, but this subsides quickly. Generally, you can go about your day after your treatment session.

Neurotoxins like Botox typically take 1-2 weeks to produce results, although you may begin to notice improvement within a few days. Neurotoxins last for 3-6 months, at which point you may return for a touch-up appointment.
