What is a Breast Lift?
A breast lift is a plastic surgery procedure designed to lift and rejuvenate the breasts to a higher position on the chest wall. Using incisions similar to breast augmentation or breast reduction, the breast lift elevates the underlying breast tissue and excises stretched skin. The result is a more youthful and upright look. A plastic surgeon can perform a breast lift that fits your exact needs using customizable incisions and techniques.

Breast Lift Candidates
The breast lift is ideal for women who have sagging breasts or breasts where the nipples fall below the natural breast fold. Many women opt for a breast lift because of factors that affect the position of their breasts like pregnancy, weight loss, or aging. To be considered a good candidate for a breast lift, you should be in overall good health and able to take time to recover after your procedure. Dr. Roussel will perform a thorough examination and carefully discuss your cosmetic goals to help you select the best procedure for your needs.
The breast lift is commonly combined with breast augmentation or breast reduction. If you want to add or restore volume to your breasts, then implants can be an excellent addition. Alternatively, if you want to reduce the size of your breasts at the same time as lifting them to a more upright position, breast reduction can help. Dr. Roussel will give a professional recommendation on the best way to achieve your ideal look during your consultation.
Breast Lift Procedure Steps
The breast lift is performed as an outpatient procedure using general anesthesia. Dr. Roussel will perform an incision around the areolae, underneath the breast crease, or a combination of both to gain access to the underlying breast tissue. The breast tissue will be lifted and repositioned higher on the chest wall and the entire breast will be lifted with it. Excess skin will be removed and the sutures will be closed. Once completed, you can return home to begin your recovery.
1-2 Weeks
Breast Lift Results and Recovery
Recovery from a breast lift can take 1-2 weeks of dedicated downtime. Throughout this period, you should avoid elevating your heart rate through intensive activity. Dr. Roussel will provide detailed aftercare instructions on caring for your incisions, following up, and managing swelling. You’ll also be instructed to wear your surgical bra to support your breasts and relieve pressure from your incisions. When sleeping, you should remain in an upright position and avoid laying on your side or stomach.
It may take 2-3 weeks for most swelling to subside, at which point you should begin to see your results emerge. You’ll see an immediate improvement in your breasts’ position and overall appearance in the balance of your figure. When performed by an expert plastic surgeon, your breast lift results can last for the long term.
