What is a Thigh Lift?
A thigh lift is a plastic surgery procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the thighs. Using incisions, it can create a slimmer, more defined look to the thighs and hips by removing sagging skin and fat. Dr. Roussel can contour the thighs and enhance the look and fit of your lower body using surgical techniques.

What makes a good thigh lift candidate?
The best candidates for a thigh lift are patients who have sagging, stretched skin and stubborn fat on the inner and outer thighs. In many cases, these concerns can impact the overall look of your figure and make it difficult to fit into certain clothing. They may also produce uncomfortable symptoms like chafing. In order to be considered a good candidate for a thigh lift, you should be in overall good health and able to take time to recover after surgery. Furthermore, you should be at a healthy and stable weight – if you have more weight to lose or are prone to weight fluctuations, it may be best to postpone your procedure. Dr. Roussel will assess your medical history and perform a thorough examination to help you determine the best surgical plan for your goals.
The thigh lift is often combined with other body contouring procedures like the body lift or tummy tuck. It may also be combined with liposuction to further contour the area. Dr. Roussel will provide a professional recommendation on the best procedures to combine with your thigh lift.
Thigh Lift Procedure Steps
A thigh lift is performed as an outpatient procedure using general anesthesia. There are a few incision patterns that can be used, including an inner thigh incision, an outer thigh incision, and a limited incision around the hip. Dr. Roussel will help you select the right option during your consultation. To begin, your incision will be performed. Dr. Roussel will remove excess fat and trim away stretched skin, then close the incisions. Once complete, you’ll be sent home for your recovery.

Thigh Lift Results and Recovery
Recovery from a thigh lift can take 1-2 weeks. You should avoid intensive activity during this time as well as limit movements that would put a strain on your thighs. Dr. Roussel will provide detailed aftercare instructions including how to manage swelling, follow up, and monitor for complications. Most importantly, you should wear your compression garment as much as possible to aid in your results and achieve the intended outcome.
It may take 2-3 weeks for most swelling to subside after a thigh lift, and residual swelling may take several more weeks. However, after 2-3 weeks you’ll be able to see a noticeable improvement in the overall look and shape of your thighs with a slimmer, more defined look and a reduction in sagging skin. If you maintain a healthy and active lifestyle, a thigh lift can last for many years.
